Pickard - Lizzie Shepherd

Source: Waveland Independent Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana Feb 24, 1899

Mrs. Lizzie Pickard died at her home on E. Green St. last Saturday of consumption. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. JC Burkhart at the residence, Sunday and interment in Union Cemetery Lizzie Shepherd was born Nov 23, 1867. United with the Christian Chruch at Waveland in 1882. Was married to Jefferson Pickard Dec 28, 1887. To them were born 3 sons, all of whom survive her. Her husband died in May 1898 leaving her in poor health with no property and 3 little children, to fight to battle of life, and right faithfully she did it, trusting the Lord and kind friends and relatives for help. She was perfectly resigned as to herself, her only solicitude being in regard to her 3 little boys, who are thrown on the cold charity of the world. But He who noted the sparrow's fall will care for them; and does there not come to us some admonition suggesting that "pure and undefiled religion" is to visit the sick, to care for the widow and the fatherless? The family extend their thanks for the kindnesses shown them during the long sickness of Mrs. Pickard -- kbz
